Nevada on January 11th

I am on a road trip right now. It has been an interesting and difficult trip. We have made a circle from San Diego to Oakland (stayed in Vacaville), to Elko, Nevada, to Provo, Utah, to Las Vegas and back to San Diego. I just crossed back into California from Nevada. We went through snow through Donner Pass, but that was the most exciting part of the trip geographically.

Why? I first dropped my one daughter off back at college for her last semester. She goes to California College of the Arts. See her work at www.samanthaallard.com.

Normally, we turn around and come back. This time, we had to also take our 16-year-old to a school in Provo.

My first attempt at gloves for my daughter.

I brought yarn with me and have tried various things (including gloves above my daughter requested), but discovered that my combination of Stylecraft Special DK, Scheepjes Colour Crafter, and Caron Simply Soft isn’t going to work. There is just enough difference in the weight of the yarns to make them not work for the motifs (several) I have in mind. Even though I prefer Stylecraft and Scheepjes in general, I think a worsted weight is better for this.

I asked my husband to compare my two samples. (Jan 1 and Jan 3 colors – somehow I left one of the colors I needed for Jan 2nd at home). The Jan 1 has the high temperature in Caron Blue Mint and low temperature in Scheepjes Rhenen. The Jan 3rd one has the high temperature in Scheepjes Den Helder and low temperature in Stylecraft Cloud Blue. The Jan 3rd is softer, but also floppier. The stitches stand out better for the Jan 1st sample and it is thicker. Interesting, because the edging is Scheepjes. It is possible I can use Caron for the petals and Stylecraft and Scheepjes for the border. Can’t decide if I want to have a uniform edge color or not.

I wasn’t going to do a daily blanket this time, but found this pattern (then changed the last rounds). Last year, I tried to find a skull ? pattern.
