Here is a photo example that was NOT based on my grid that I posted this morning. This just happened to come up in a group post and I asked Janelle Dupree’s permission to use her photo for an example. She came up with the idea, and it just seemed to go with my grid, so I asked her if I could use it as an example.
In the photo, what you are looking at are EIGHT different blankets, folded up. They were Christmas gifts.
Here is what Janelle had to say about the pattern:
“I made up my own pattern. 2 rows per color. 1 row is just sc. 2nd row is sc and bobbles (or popcorn). The black rows are both sc. There are 15 stitches per row. If I had my time to go back I would do less amount of stitches per row so as to make it not quite as wide. I wanted it to have an uneven number of stitches across so I would have a center stitch to add their name and year they were born. I added black to each side of the strips and then sc the strips together. Those 3 counted as a sc when I did the border. I didn’t add a black row down the outside side of the first strip (January) or the last strip (December). Those were added when I did the border. There are 213 stitches across before the border is added. ”
Here is a grid that will help with something similar to Janelle’s idea. You can use any stitch you want and create 12 strips – one strip for each month. You have to do a little math to figure out how wide and long you want your blanket.
